MASTER PLAN

Figure 2

Mr Adrian Fisher, the CEO of Rooted in Hull made a visit to the first cohort of Graphic Design students at the University of Hull. During that visit, Mr Fisher gave information about his business and what his intentions are. He discussed ways in which he wants Rooted in Hull to improve and where he wanted it to go in the future. All of this information was noted to assist during the rest of the project.

Following from when Mr Fisher had left, groups of students were formed in order to discuss ideas about different artwork choices and ways in which the business can be improved. Design ideas were spoken about for ways that Rooted in Hull can reach a much larger audience. A master plan was completed with all this information, shown in figure 2.

The master plan is divided into four main categories which need to be considered throughout the project. Colour, Composition, Typography and Conceptual design. These four points will make every piece made come together. Surrounding that are ideas that can be developed in the future.

The first section on the masterplan is labelled “online”. This entails the website, an app and an online store. The website as it stands is presented well and has all the information on it that Mr Fisher wants to share. In order to improve that, an online shop would be a good idea as it would help boost sales. It would mean more customers as people wouldn’t need to travel. An app would also be beneficial as most people have a smart phone and an app provides easier access.

Social media and advertisement are also a section on the masterplan. In current times, the world is run by social media. In order for Mr Fisher to gain a larger audience, social media presence is vital as it is much easier to promote or get the word around on. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are the three primary sites. Facebook would reach more of an older audience and Instagram would reach younger. Sponsoring a post would roughly cost £6 for 7 days to reach 100+ people. Other ways of advertisement include posters, merchandise, events and broadcasted mentions.

Merchandise is a great but subtle promoter. There are multiple options on the list for use further into the project. Each item would be maid sustainable, meaning that most materials would be make from recycled items, have the ability to be recycled or can be used multiple times. The main focus of Mr Fisher is to have a cleaner environment, he is heavy on this being his brand identity. A few examples would be a reusable water bottle and a notebook made from recycled materials.

Events are also a good way to promote a business. Having events that appeal to all age groups such as art shows and pizza parties will allow the business to reach a variety of different people which would be beneficial to them.

The final part of the master plan is the Business Branding Package. The items in every branding package contain the businesses identity and they have items that directly relate to the business. An example for Rooted in Hull would be a plant care card, this is personalised to this specific business so it would not be found in many other branding packages.
