Drinking Water Bottle

Figure 1: Drinking water bottle.

Figure 1 shows the skeleton version of drinking water bottles without any design or colour added to them. The drinking bottle would be made from stainless steel as it has good corrosion resistance which is essential when the sole purpose is to hold liquid. It is a sustainable material as the majority of it is scrap metal, it is also cheap to manufacture as it has limited steps when being manufactured. Stainless steel is also heat resistant meaning that the liquid inside the bottle will stay cool. If it was to hold hot water, it would be able to do so but it wouldn’t stay hot for long.

Figure 2: Colourised drinking water bottle.

The next step was to figure out the colours of the bottles. Four options were chosen, including all three main colours from the Rooted in Hull logo and just a standard stainless steel colour. In order to tie in the stainless steel, all three colours where added to different sections of the bottle.

Figure 4: Rooted in Hull logo drinking water bottle.

These are the bottles with the Rooted in Hull logo. The logo was chosen to be on each bottle with a black background, this is to make the Rooted in Hull logo to stand out. Because the primary colours of the bottles are that of the logo, a separation colour was needed in order for the logo to stand out from the background. The logo was placed to the centre of the bottle as the design was going to be kept simple. The logo was designed to take the centre piece as it is merchandise.

Figure 5: Drinking water bottle alternative designs.

These are some other designs for the bottles. They still have the Rooted in Hull logo on them, but they now have more of a design to them. The same colour palette has been stuck with through out however, a shade of blue was added into one of the personal designs. These designs are more generic as customers would be more likely to buy an item that doesn’t just have a logo on it. The first design has yellow and red leafs on it to fit with the theme of plants and nature. The second design has the quote “water isn’t just for plants” the font used is Gill Sans. Just like other designs created, there is an offset to give the text more depth. Different leafs were added to the first design but there is an attempted to keep the same theme going. The third design was chosen to be more simple. Blue water droplets to the red bottle. The fourth design has the quote “take a sip” with the text in the primary colours of the logo.

Colour Scheme

Figure 6 shows the colour palette that has been used within the designs of the water bottles. It includes the primary colours of the logo and two additional colours.

Notebooks

Figure 7: Notebooks.

These are the blank versions of the notebooks which have been chosen to design. The cover of each notebook would be made from cork. Cork is a natural, sustainable material. It is biodegradable so it is perfect for the environment as it can be recycled. The material is also very lightweight so it is perfect for the customers that want a notebook that they can take with them anywhere. The contents inside the notebook would be made from recycled paper to save the trees. Rooted in Hull is all about planting and not cutting them down so not having recycled paper would defeat their intentions and everything that they stand for as a business.

Figure 8: Colourised notebooks.

These are the coloured versions of the notebooks. There are two different options that can be used to colour them, the first one being natural paint by using the colouring from the plants grown on site. The second one being normal acrylic paint. Just like the water bottles, the three primary colours from the logo have been used and then added on an extra colour which would just be the raw cork material.

Figure 9: Rooted in Hull logo notebooks.

For these notebooks, the Rooted in Hull logo has been added. The logo has been kept on the same black background for the same reason as before. The red circle is to represent a drawing pin to give the look of a post it note pinned to the cork board.

Figure 10: Notebooks alternative designs.

Figure 10 shows some alternative designs of the notebooks. A very similar approach to the water battles was taken when creating these. Each quote uses the same Gill Sans font and all have offsets to create depth. The bottom right notebook has a blank space for the customer to be able to put what ever they want in it to make it more personal to them.

Plant Pots

The final items chosen to design is a plant pot. The plant pot would be made from clay, however the materials used may not be sustainable but the pot is reusable.

SMALL BUSINESS BRANDING PACKAGE

Figure 19: T-Shirts branding designs.

This is a business branding package created for Rooted in Hull. Every item, other than the uniform is made from recycled paper. Due to materials being recycled, each item has a brown colour to it. On every item the Rooted in Hull logo is used.

A loyalty card system has been created for customers, this would boost the return to the site and is an incentive for customers to spend more money. The card has 5 circles for where it would be stamped when a purchase has been made. Once all of the stamps are collected, there is 20% off for their next purchase, this is either in the shop, or in the cafe. The front on the loyalty card is shared with the location/business card. It has the liquified pattern as the background and there is the logo stamped on the top as it’s the brand identity. The reason a business card has been chosen is to help advertise the small business. It would be taken away by visitors and potentially displayed by other companies local to Rooted in Hull. The business card includes a small map of where the location of the site can be found.

There is a care card which would be given to customers when they purchase the appropriate item. This is to help them take care of of their items and how to look after/prolong them.

A shopping bag has been created that would be used to give to customers to carry their goods once they finish their visit.

Envelopes and mugs are always a staple in businesses. Although most things are done digitally now, envelopes are still useful for sending things off. Most businesses have branded mugs, they can either be used in the cafe or by the staff.

Two variations of uniform have been designed, one for The Peoples Pizza and the other for Rooted in Hull. Uniforms are essential as it helps visitors distinguish who to look for either for advice or for help. On the uniform there is the Rooted in Hull logo and the colours were kept simple.
